Lucky Strike Cigarettes are liked by physicians because they are less irritating than normal cigarettes because the tobacco is toasted. How often are cigs approved/recommended by physicians? Never. In this ad, a physician is smiling, looking happier then ever by what he is reading on the package of the cigarettes. It seems as if he is amazed by the making of these cigarettes. He looks as if a healthy cigarette has been born into the world. This ad appeals to the audience of smokers, and more specifically people who want to quit smoking or want to find a satisfying cigarette. People who are trying to quit smoking  do so because it is bad for your health. This ad may draw those people back into smoking because these cigarettes are approved by physicians and will not irritate the throat, resulting in a smokers cough.  The ad is tying to appeal to the desire to have relief and freedom. A smoker looking for a healthy or less irritating cigarette will have a feeling of relief when they find out that Lucky Strike cigarettes are liked by physicians. In addition, they will have a feeling of achievement and freedom because they have achieved the goal of finding the perfect cig. Also, it portrays a sense of freedom by making smokers feel as if they found a cigarette that does not affect their health. Lucky Strike cigarettes give the protection smokers need to no longer have a smokers cough.  This ad assumes the viewer will notice the glasses, which distinguish a physician. Also, the ad assumes we notice the smile on the physician, and how he is reading/looking at something pleasant on the box. "Your Throat Protection against irritation agaisnt cough" claims that these cigarettes provide protection from irritation. All smokers are affected by the health issues that cigarettes come with. Lucky Strike cigarettes provide the PROTECTION needed to no longer be affected by this issue.

Entry 1

I pretty much eat Mexican food everyday. An argument I was recently involved in was about which taco shop is better: Juanita’s or Rico’s taco shop. I was supporting the Juanita’s side while one of my friends was on the Rico’s side of the argument. We made claims about who’s food was better, refills, menu size, burrito size, salsa, and who has the best meals and service.

Rico’s has a better refill policy, but Juanita’s has better tasting meat and a better California burrito (This is the one I order). Juanita’s also has an overall bigger burrito in comparison to Rico’s. The menu size at Rico’s is larger, but their salsa is not nearly as tasty as Juanita’s.

Evidence used was a comparison in burrito size, weather the cheese is melted inside the burrito giving it an overall better taste, and a comparison in which salsa is more pleasing to the tongue. Also, we came to the conclusion that Rico’s has a better refill policy because they don’t charge for an extra refill, but Juanita’s does.

People assume that Juanita’s is a better taco shop. It is assumed that Mexican restaurants/ taco shops that are closer to the beach and have a Mexican origin make better Mexican food. It is also assumed that Juanita’s is a better taco shop because it has been around for much longer than Rico’s has, giving it more experience and more time to please the consumers.

These assumptions and beliefs were discovered through the rhetorical use of logos. The logic of reasoning was used to interpret which taco shop is better: which shop has been around longer, size of the burrito, quality of meat, and consistency of the tortilla. No emotional appeals were used. I am an experienced burrito consumer and my credibility is trustworthy which utilizes the rhetorical use of ethos appeal.

The main weakness in this argument is that both sides are based off opinion. Many people enjoy eating Rico’s more and many people like Juanita’s more than Rico’s. During this argument, both sides used an angry and confused tone, hoping to draw more people on their side due to their confusion and anger.

At the end of the argument, both sides did not change their opinions about the topic. I will always be a Juanita’s supporter. Now that I know how to analyze arguments, I will look at everyday situations, as this one, differently. Next time your on the 101 in Encinitas, go to Juanita’s and order a California Burrito…tell me what you think.
